More than 70 countries on six continents and still the same rule: I take the longer road, because that is where most things happen.

10 years of writing and not a single place described second-hand.
My rule of thumb
Better to take the longer, rougher road and see more.
Travel runs in the family
In the 1970s and 80s my father drove his Skoda to Ukraine, explored the Balkans and the Asian part of Turkey. My grandfather's wartime journey took him to Romania, Greece, France and Britain. Their stories of distant lands stayed with me as a boy and woke the urge to go further, see more and feel more intensely.
I travel alone and with my family. Trips with my children let me see the world through their eyes too, and an electric car increasingly takes the place of a plane.
This blog is for people who can hardly wait for their next trip. I only write about places I have been to and share what helps on the road: routes, prices, opening hours and my own mistakes.
